Harry Owens with children at Whitesheet Primary Academy
Bronze medal winning gymnast Harry Owen shared his story of dedication, success and achievement, seeking to inspire children and staff with his self belief and determination.
He involved the children in gymnastic activities during a Fitness Challenge and then performed some of his own. The children also saw a DVD of Harry's gymnastic skills which, according to Headteacher Karen Brooker, “had them gasping and applauding.” Harry also explained his tough training regime and the benefits of healthy eating.
Each child was sponsored prior to taking part. Of the money they collected, £219.00 went to Children in Need and the remainder was donated to help support Team GB athletes.
Mrs Brooker said, “Having Harry here has really motivated the children. We already have a thriving gym club and more children are now keen to join. He was brilliant with the children and we shall all be following his future successes with great interest.”
‘Sports For Champions’ believe that inspiration and motivation will encourage undiscovered potential, and that their Fitness Challenge can unleash this in schools. They visited Whitesheet Primary twice: once for an assembly and once for the main event where Harry Owen led the pupils through the Challenge itself.
