Term 1 Training Events

Ruth Laing, Talk 4 Writing training – 28th September 2017

Venue: The DEC, Wilton, SP2 0FG         Time: 9a.m. – 4p.m. (tea/coffee from 8.30a.m.)

Developing imitation and innovation

This day would be suitable for teachers, TAs and leaders that have some understanding of the sequence of Talk 4 Writing (The 3 I’s of imitation, innovation and invention/independent application) and wish to develop this further.

We will secure an understanding of the Talk 4 Writing teaching sequence through exploring a unit of work (including planning) and develop a deeper understanding of how to secure challenge for all through the innovation stage. We will specifically explore the structure of non-fiction texts and also look in depth at short burst creative/ poetic writing and how this feeds into innovation.

Clare Murray and Becky O’Brien, Behaviour Management training – 9th October 2017

Developing imitation and innovation

This afternoon training session would be suitable for teachers, TAs and leaders that need some additional support with behaviour management and strategies to support vulnerable learners within the class. We will discuss different de-escalation strategies and listen to some case studies using the knowledge from two experienced practitioners who have worked in some very challenging situations. There will be the opportunity for colleagues to discuss individual cases within the training and there will ongoing support after the training to discuss individual cases and receive outreach support through phone conversations, emails and visits to schools.

Ruth Laing, Talk 4 Writing training – 10th November 2017

Venue: Shrewton CE Primary School, SP3 4LT           Time: 9a.m. – 4p.m. (tea/coffee from 8.30a.m.)

Developing an understanding of toolkits, language activities and independent application

This day would be suitable for teachers, TAs and leaders that have some understanding of the basic sequence of Talk 4 Writing (The 3 I’s of imitation, innovation and invention/independent application) and wish to develop this further. It would help if practitioners had attended the day on September 28th. This day will also have a session focusing on developing writing in the EYFS so it would be useful for EYFS and other practitioners.

We will explore the importance of creating writers toolkits and how to use these to develop writing further. We will focus on the importance of developing creative language through daily word, sentence and text activities and we will explore how we promote and provide opportunities for independence (through invention tasks and feedback and marking) – We will also explore how we develop independence in the EYFS.
