Promoting British Values
The Department for Education have published guidance expressing the need “to create and enforce a clear and rigorous expectation on all schools to promote the fundamental British values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs.” Within the Diocese of Salisbury Academy Trust we seek to promote these values through our Trust vision statement and the vision statements of the individual academies within our Trust. Our curriculum approach ensures that these values are addressed frequently through RE, personal and social development, behaviour and reward systems and circle time, as well as through collective worship and extra-curricular activities.
As an organisation, we will actively challenge pupils, staff or parents expressing opinions contrary to the above values. All our staff have undertaken PREVENT training so are alert to the need to respond to potential extremism and radicalisation.
